The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan handed over a consignment of Ceylon tea to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) to support ongoing humanitarian relief efforts for the people of Palestine. The consignment was received by Dr. Hussein Mohammad Abdelfattah Al Shebli, Secretary General of JHCO.
The donation consists of approximately 960 kilograms of Ceylon tea, arranged by the Sri Lanka Tea Board with the support of Sri Lankan tea exporters. The international shipping costs of the consignment were generously borne by Hanna Company of Jordan, upon the Embassy’s request.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Jordan, highlighted that the donation forms part of the Embassy’s activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Jordan. The Ambassador underscored that this contribution reflects Sri Lanka’s solidarity, compassion, and concern for the welfare of the Palestinian people, who continue to face immense hardship.
Ambassador Wjegunasekara praised the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for its exemplary leadership and sustained efforts in facilitating humanitarian assistance through trusted and efficient channels. She also expressed deep appreciation to JHCO for its unwavering support and critical role in delivering relief to vulnerable communities.
Dr. Hussein Mohammad Abdelfattah Al Shebli conveyed his sympathies to those affected by Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka, expressed sincere gratitude for the donation, and reaffirmed JHCO’s commitment to ensuring the donated tea reaches Palestinian families in need.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka extended its thanks to JHCO, Hanna Company, and the Sri Lanka Tea Board for partnering in this humanitarian initiative and reiterated Sri Lanka’s continued commitment to supporting efforts that promote hope, dignity, and solidarity.
