• The Embassy shall perform marriage registrations under the General Marriage Ordinance (Chapter 112) upon submission of the ‘Notice of Marriage’ in the presence of a Diplomatic Officer and signed by two (2) witnesses at the Embassy.
  • One of the parties to the marriage should be a Sri Lankan national and should give a Notice of Marriage to the Embassy.
  • Two (2) witnesses should be Sri Lankan nationals with valid visas and valid passports in their presence. Witnesses should be known to both parties.
  • Please note that applicants should physically be present at the Embassy along with the required documents to give the Notice of Marriage, which will be published at the Embassy premises during the prescribed period (14 days).
  • The registration can take place after two weeks (14 days) from the date of submission of the complete documents, but within three (3) months. If the marriage is not registered within 3 months, the Marriage Notice automatically lapses.
  • The registration of marriage is performed on a date decided by the concerned parties in the presence of a Diplomatic Officer and signed by two (2) witnesses at the Embassy.
  • After the marriage registration, the Marriage Certificate (First Copy), which is issued by the Embassy, shall be handed over by the Diplomatic Officer to the parties concerned.
  • The second copy of the Marriage Certificate will be sent to the Registrar General’s Department by the Embassy. When required, additional copies of the certificate could be obtained from the Registrar General’s Department.

  • Both parties should produce the following documents:
    • Valid travel documents with photocopies of detail pages and visa pages to prove their identity
    • A valid residence visa (Iqama) in Jordan
    • If unmarried, a certificate or a declaration of the unmarried status
    • If Divorce, the Divorce Certificate and Free to Marry Certificates (should be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sri Lanka)
    • If widowed, Death Certificate of the late spouse should be duly countersigned by the relevant authorities/Embassies. Documents from non-Sri Lankan parties should be countersigned by the relevant Embassy in Jordan.
    • Original Birth Certificates with copies. Documents from non-Sri Lankan party should be countersigned by the relevant Embassy in Jordan.
  • Two Sri Lankan witnesses to the marriage, who have passports and a valid residence visa (Iqama) in Jordan.
  • As per Circular No. 18/2021 of the Registrar General of Sri Lanka, for marriage with a foreign national, the following additional documents are required:
  • Security clearance report of the foreign partner with proper attestations
