Registration of Births and Citizenships

The application to register the birth of a baby born in Jordan can be submitted to the Embassy.

  • The birthplace of the child should be in Jordan.
  • At least one parent (mother or father of the child) should be a citizen of Sri Lanka or should have dual citizenship at the time of the child’s birth.
  • Both parents and the child should be present at the time of registration.
  • The registration of birth should be made within three (3) months of the birth.
  • If the registration is done between 3 and 12 months from the date of birth, the reason for the delay should be submitted to the Embassy.
  • In the event of failure to register the birth within a period of one year from the date of birth of the child, a fine shall be imposed for the delay.
  • If an application is made to register the birth of a child after one year from the date of birth, the application should be forwarded to the Registrar General Department (Central Record Room of the Registrar General’s Department , Battaramulla) to obtain approval. Hence, it takes more time to issue a birth certificate for a child born more than a year ago.

  • The original Birth certificate will be issued to the applicant in Jordan or will be dispatched to the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be handed over to the applicant in Sri Lanka.
