Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan Hosts ‘Ceylon High Tea’ to Promote Ceylon Tea

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jordan successfully hosted a tea promotional event under the theme ‘Ceylon High Tea’ at the Olive Tree Hotel on 23 September 2023, as part of its ongoing trade and tourism promotion initiatives.

The primary objective of the event was to promote Ceylon Tea internationally while offering guests the opportunity to savor a premium selection of teas alongside traditional Sri Lankan snacks, biscuits, and delicacies.

The ‘Ceylon High Tea’ was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of chambers of commerce, tea traders, leading businessmen in the tea sector, exporters, and Jordanian media.

In her welcome remarks, H.E. J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, highlighted the global reputation of Ceylon Tea as a symbol of quality, heritage, and national pride. She also introduced the seven regional varieties of Ceylon Tea, emphasizing their unique diversity in flavor, aroma, strength, and color—qualities unmatched by any other origin.
Guests were invited to experience a range of Ceylon Teas, including regional specialties, flavored teas, and iced teas. A display of tea packs from the Sri Lanka Tea Board and leading tea companies further enriched participants’ knowledge about Sri Lanka’s renowned tea industry.

To complement the evening, tea and tourism promotional videos were screened, showcasing Sri Lanka’s iconic tea experience, rich cultural heritage, and scenic landscapes. The cultural ambiance was further enhanced by a vibrant traditional tea-plucking dance performed by a group of Sri Lankan employees from Classic Apparel.

As a token of appreciation, each guest received a gift pack of flavored teas courtesy of Albina and Hanna Company in Jordan.

The event successfully promoted Sri Lanka’s signature export while strengthening trade and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Jordan.
