J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
Mrs. J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara is currently serving as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. She is a career diplomat with 21 years of experience in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service.
Prior to her current position, she served as the Director General of the Consular Affairs and Overseas Sri Lankan Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. She also served in several other positions in the Ministry, including in the Overseas Administration Division and the South Asia and SAARC Division.
Her diplomatic assignments entailed at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya (2005-2008), the Sri Lanka Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon (2011-2015), and the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto, Canada (2017-2021).,
Her educational qualifications include a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Colombo, a Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratization from the University of Colombo, a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Kelaniya, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Peradeniya.
She submitted academic theses titled “Enslavement of Female Domestic Workers in the Middle East: The Case of Sri Lankan Domestic Workers in Lebanon’’ and “Impact of the Syrian Crisis on the European Union” to fulfill her Master Degrees to the University of Colombo and a research paper on Child Abuse to the University of Kelaniya.
While she was holding the post of Director General of the Consular Affairs and Overseas Sri Lankan Division, she participated in the varies forums, including Dual Citizenship Committee of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Board of Directors of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Inter-Institutional frame work for the Establishment of Committee on Wellbeing, Safety and Welfare of Migrant Workers, 2nd Program of Advisory Committee Meeting (PAC) of Safe Labour Migration Program, as a Co-chair of the Joint Committee for Consular Affairs between Sri Lanka and UAE (JCC), National Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force, as a Panelist in a Multi-stakeholder Consultative Forum in Commemoration of International Migrant workers Day- 2021, jointly organized by the Territory and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), Special Task Force on illegal fishing activities, Committee to facilitate the return of displaced persons living in India, Focal Point to a Special Committee to identify and make recommendation to resolve issues of the Sri Lanka Refugee returnees from India.
She is married with one son.
